FAST TRACK MODS

This session will focus on the challenges to CM presented by Fast Track modifications. These plant changes are usually scoped, designed, planned, installed, and tested in very short time intervals under significant schedule pressure. The intent of this session will be for attendees to share best practices and lessons learned associated with improving this high risk activity. Potential topics for discussion include:

  • Getting scope definition solidified quickly

  • Methods to eliminate human performance errors in design

  • Managing At-Risk installation prior to design completion/ approval

  • Risks of and ways to manage accelerated procurement cycles

  • Ensuring all impacted FCI sources are addressed

  • Ensuring adequate post mod testing is performed

Facilitator: Keith Reinsmith
Keith works for PPL Susquehanna, LLP as a Senior Engineer in Design Engineering.

He has over 29 years experience in nuclear power and 15 years in CM.

DIGITAL UPGRADES

Topics will cover the Software Lifecycle, including both software development and maintenance. It will also cover how various plants maintain configuration control of the multitude of hardware, software, and firmware revisions that have been implemented.

Discussion should also include how plants handle components like monitors, printers, and generic PC's as they are usually no longer available 6 months after they are purchased.

Participants should come prepared to discuss how these issues are handled by their organization.

Facilitator: Scott Patterson
Scott works for PG&E at the Diablo Canyon Power Plant as the Program Manager for the I&C Obsolescence Management Program and Project Manager Supervisor.

He has over 32 years experience in Instrumentation and Control Systems

MARGIN MANAGEMENT
Attendees will be asked to share their experiences with identifying and managing low margin SSCs.

How are too low margin SSCs identified - system health reports, operable but degraded SSCs, other?

How are margin issues prioritized for action?

What has been particularly effective and what has not?

Facilitator : Rick Harris
Rick works for Duke Energy at the McGuire Station as a Senior Engineer.

He has over 35 years of experience in nuclear power and
14 years in CM.

CM/EQUIPMENT RELIABILITY
This breakout session will give the audience an opportunity to discuss the topic in more detail and ask questions about the presentation.

Case studies and examples will be provided showing direct impact on ER from not having effective CM including loss of equipment function resulting into systems being declared inoperable to inefficiencies introduced into the work management process.

It is expected that best practices can be identified or at least what has or hasn’t worked.

Facilitator: Hamil Grimes
Hamil works for Entergy at the Pilgrim Station as the Configuration Management Supervisor.

He has over 27 years experience in nuclear power and 3 years in CM (including Procurement Engineering).
